Tree for me

I haven't decided yet whether or not I'll sell this tree pendant. I'm incredibly attached to it. It's the first one I've made.

I have trouble with this sometimes... less now than at the beginning, because making a particular piece will have helped me work through something, or I remember how i felt when I was designing it. I'd like to do more like this one though, but this one took about an hour, so I probably wouldn't focus on them as far as sales go. I need to start repeating my designs so I know I can reproduce them, that's been my concentration for this week. But it's nice to do something just to see if i can. :)

HUDSON COUNTY ART SLAM is a seasonal event brought to you by Art House Productions, La Ola Org, and Roland Ramos that will be presented during JC Fridays this December. Handmade Faire this weekend... pictures!

Well, here we are! all set up at the Handmade Faire in Medford, New Jersey at the Flying W Airport! Props to Abbie of Abbie Road Designs for putting this show together. It was great to meet up with people I've only ever met online (holla back, AJK Artistry, Dhara Holistics, and Aziez Designs!)

While I was there I thought i'd keep my hands busy, and I did a garnet-and-pearl spiral. I have less than half of my inventory up on my etsy site,

I was talking to a friend in DC and she mentioned that her friend was also selling her jewelry! She went to class at a place that I don't want to name but it's a famous artists' place in DC that used to be a factory that made torpedoes. *wink wink.*

So her friend takes this class on how to market your product. And they say to her, "Well, your problem is that your jewelry looks like stuff you could get from India for ten bucks."

ummmm WOW. thanks! that's awesome. very helpful. i could think of probably at least 27 kinder and more helpful ways to say something like that. i've never seen her work, but how about, "well it looks like you have room for growth in X area" or "Maybe you need some items that will fit a wider range of price points."

yuk. i'm sure that's not representative of the artists that have their studios ath this place that used to be a factory that made torpedoes. but what a way to influence someone's art. i hope i never say anything that rude to someone, no matter what I think of their art.

Boobs and beads!

Recently I became aware of a phenomenon called 'nursing jewelry.' If you have a little one you have probably already heard of this, but it was new to this lady!

I set out to design some handmade beads for a nursing bracelet... a stretchy band that you can switch from wrist to wrist to remember which side you last nursed on.

I came up with these:














That's right. Boob beads.

Alas, they did not function so well on the elastic as a bracelet... they spun around because of the extra clay for the nipples, and i thought of putting nipples on both sides so they were reversible, but... CREEPY.

so now, what to do? twelve boobs in all, handcrafted. Turn them into earrings? hairsticks? The possibilities really are endless, and yet, I am stumped.

Any suggestions?
